Time for Europe

After seeing and reflecting on what is going on in Europe right now I am reminded of a House of Prayer for Europe a few of us engaged at the beginning of this year (2016).

A few of us from different European nations were together in my house, (some of us were formerly part of the Simple Church EU Team). As we prayed over a map of Europe, certain nations were highlighted to us…

At one point in the evening we all suddenly began praying very strongly and fervently for Turkey, particularly Istanbul and Erdogan. Of course, we didn’t know as we prayed then (Feb 2016) that only 5 months later there would be an attempted military coup to overthrow President Erdogan…but what we did know was that the Spirit moved us strongly to pray into this region and even at the time. Of prayer, it felt very significant…

And, of course, Turkey is very significant to Europe and has Global significance…it lies at the junction of the planets tectonic plates..with Russia to the north, Syria and Iraq to the south and Iran to the East. Turkey is strategically located for what God wants to do in Europe and beyond and is at the centre of shifts that are currently taking place in our time…

More than 80 people have recently died, including more than 10 children, through what has been described as a ‘terrorist attack’ in Nice, after a lorry slammed through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in the southern French city of Nice.
‘Liberte’ – freedom – is one of France’s founding principles. It was being celebrated as part of Bastille Day when the lorry drove into the crowds on Nice’s waterfront.’

This is the second attack in France to occur within the space of one year; the ‘attacks in Paris on the night of Friday 13 November by gunmen and suicide bombers hit a concert hall, a major stadium, restaurants and bars, almost simultaneously – and left 130 people dead and hundreds wounded.’

Is France Under Attack?

Is ‘Liberte’ being attacked and why?

What is clear is that France is in a STATE OF EMERGENCY…(I would suggest in more ways than one)

‘Europe is experiencing one of the most significant influxes of migrants and refugees in its history. Pushed by civil war and terror and pulled by the promise of a better life, huge numbers of people have fled the Middle East and Africa, risking their lives along the way.

More than a million migrants and refugees crossed into Europe in 2015, compared with just 280,000 the year before. The scale of the crisis continues, with more than 135,000 people arriving in the first two months of 2016. Among the forces driving people to make the dangerous journey are the conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. The vast majority – more than 80% – of those who reached Europe by boat in 2015 came from those three countries.’

In 2015 more than 3,770 people drowned or went missing crossing the Mediterranean to Greece or Italy in flimsy dinghies or unsafe fishing boats.

Most of those heading for Greece take the relatively short voyage from Turkey to the islands of Kos, Chios, Lesbos and Samos. There is very little infrastructure on these small Greek islands to cope with the thousands of people arriving, leaving overburdened authorities struggling to provide vital assistance.

Thousands of migrants have been stranded in makeshift camps in cash-strapped Greece, which has asked the European Commission for nearly €500m in humanitarian aid.

‘UK voted to leave the EU. On 23 June, the UK finally settled the question that’s been rumbling close to the surface of British politics for a generation: should the country remain within the European Union or go it alon

The final result went 52 to 48 per cent in favour of Brexit…

As a result, British Prime Minister David Cameron announced that he would resign as prime minister before the Conservative Party conference in October 2016

The American government said it feared that the “EU referendum is a dangerous gamble that could unravel with disastrous consequences for the entire continent [of Europe]”. (Source: the’

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a new law recently…

Under the new law, foreign missionaries will not be allowed to speak at churches unless that have a work permit from Russian authorities; any kind of discussion about God with non-believers would be considered missionary activity and punishable by law; and religious activities even in private homes will not be allowed.

What is more, anyone from the age of 14 found to be preaching will be subject to prosecution, and every citizen is required to report religious activity to the authorities, or face punishment him or herself.

10-15 WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY FOR EUROPE (the Darkest Continent)

At end of 2009, Marsha and I were at the ‘Global House Church Summit in Delhi…

I sensed God speak to me and say:

‘There is a 10-15 window of opportunity in Europe to “work while it is still day…because when night time comes, no man will be able to work”‘

I sensed the clock started ticking in relation to that word in 2010

During 2010- David L Watson put on Multiplication Training in Europe called ‘Time for Europe’

Also Steve Smith and Jeff Sundell came over to Europe to facilitate T4T Training (another Multiplication Movements model) and this approach was taken up by GEM (Greater Europe Mission) with their 50 in 5 initiative (to kick start 50 movements, in 50 cities in 5 years using Multiplication Principles)

Since 2010- many of the traditional mission agencies have taken up Multiplication Movements principles with a focus on Europe (for example GEM, IMB, CRM, FRONTIERS etc), newer mission agencies are also focusing on these Disciple Multiplication Movements in Europe (MOVE, All Nations)…this has still not fully filtered into denominations and churches, but in the last 2 years some denominational heads have become interested in Multiplication Movements. The increase in popularity is partly due to books (mainly from America) being written on this subject and big conferences like Exponential.

NewformsResources have been training churches and organisations using Missional and Multiplication principles across Europe and beyond drawing on best practices from movements and practitioners globally, but also fashioning tools and practices learn’t from church planters and disciple makers using Luke 10 approaches in the context and soil of Europe…

As we have travelled for the past 7 years across Britain and then Mainland Europe,  we’ve heard numerous prophetic words about A Great Wave is Coming (see Acts 8:1). This is either a wave of persecution or/and a wave of disciple and church multiplication movements amongst the harvest of 750+ million people in our continent. Our response to these prophetic words NOW at this critical juncture, determines the extent to which either of these scenerios takes place…

What do you sense the Spirit of God Saying to His People, and His Mission in Europe at this Time in HIStory?

Has anyone had any sense of what God is saying/wanting to do at this time?

Wow!!! Amazing, Peter. I remember we had a woman pastor, Mary Alice Isleib I think her name was, from Scandanavia, who took a prayer seminar in Hastings, NZ during the 90’s. She was part of a 3000 strong prayer movement that saw the Berlin wall come down & massive political changes happen in Albania which she believed was the result of their prayer. I think we underestimate the impact of persistent prayer which has the power to change the landscape of our world. It is something we need to keep in mind when we are church planting in the west because we tend to take the short route. Political situations are happening very quickly & you have asked a very good question: what is God saying to us at this time? The men of Issachar understood the times & knew what Israel should do. Jesus spent a lot of time in prayer with the Father & whatever He did, was what the Father told Him to do. I read a report from David Watson about a group of people he started working with, in India, where there was prolific growth in discipleship numbers & concluded this happened as a result of hours of daily prayer, personal & corporate. I have a brief here in Levin NZ, with God’s help, to start houses of prayer in the 300 streets of our town (population 20,000 people). I’m believing for a total transformation of our town & region like the impact made on Almalonga in Guatemala. Once again, the nation of Guatemala had a strong intercessory prayer movement. I believe, that for the saints in the northern hemisphere, these times will be a massive opportunity of harvest. I sense their is a mobilisation of the Church in Europe & the move is spreading worldwide. Here in New Zealand, relationships that have been made over the years, in ministry, are suddenly coming together again & we seem to be all church planting! This has to be God. We are suddenly getting a response from church leaders for training to make disciples, as they obviously feel frustrated that what they have been doing hasn’t been working. Some evangelists are being called to go on the road full-time, similar to the teams in the UK. And yet we are only a small group of people! But when you take note of people or individuals over the centuries or even the disciples – it didn’t take too many to start a holy fire then, either!!! I’ll be interested to hear what others have to say.

Wow Geoff! Awesome confirmation of what I’m sensing. And also – Awesome vision you have for church planting in New Zealand…would love to hear more of how things are going as you continue on your journey into this!
